Everyone is having babies these days, and my friend Kallie just had to go and one-up us all by being pregnant with TWINS. I had the honor of having her shower at my house a couple of weeks ago and really loved every minute of planning, preparing, and hosting. Thought I’d take you all on a little photographic walk-through of the party, since it was really the only time in the past month my house has been clean enough to photograph.
In preparation for the party, I finally replaced the dead rosemary bushes that had been flanking my front steps (for a good six months) with some pink geraniums. I am proud to say that despite my terrible track-record with plants, those geraniums are still alive today. (Only Nathan knows how amazing this truly is.) In a fit of craftiness, I made these tissue pompoms for the front porch. I wanted to hang a lot more out there, but ran out of steam/motivation/time.
I didn’t do a lot of decorating for the party, but I got the idea for this little clothesline from my friend Amy (who was my co-host for the party)(that makes it sound like a radio show, and coincidentally, Amy actually IS on a radio show, so … there’s that). We gave the onesies to Kallie after the shower as a gift.
Look, I made more pompoms! The dogwood branch on the table (as well as the azaleas in the last photo) came from my neighbor’s yard. I couldn’t find any flowers I liked at Fresh Market the day of the party, so I just asked my neighbor Jill if I could use her yard and she graciously allowed me to. I’m not sure she knew I’d be sawing off a dogwood branch, but if that was a problem … she should’ve specified.
Many of the girls at the shower (and some who didn’t attend) contributed to buy Kallie the highchairs for her baby girls. Nathan and I bought some Uglydolls + put them in the highchairs so she could envision her future. You can see them in the back corner of the dining room.
SO many girls offered to help with the food! I made a cheese plate, crispy pork medallions w/yogurt + caper dipping sauce, orzo salad (I blogged it here), and veggies + white bean hummus. Everything the other girls brought was delicious. For me, the most exciting part of any party is the food, and this spread did not disappoint.
This photograph proves that everyone had a good time. And it wasn’t staged. At all.
Amy (standing) brought a Mad Lib for us to fill out while we mingled. She read the end result while Kallie opened her gifts, and while it was hilarious, it turned out to be a bit of a horror story. You wouldn’t know it from the pictures, but we’re a bit of a morbid bunch, I guess.
Kallie, at 30+ weeks, looks better than I ever did carrying ONE baby. Seriously, she looks amazing. It’s not even right.
After a prayer for Kallie, her husband, and the babies, some gift-opening, and a crazy Mad Lib, Amy and her amazing cupcake bar treated us all to some delicious dessert. If you’re in the Southern Pines area and having any sort of event, ever, you need to hire Amy to come do her thang. You won’t regret it.
Kallie + her husband are going to be amazing parents. They’re leaving us soon, but we love them + wish them all the best. And I’ll always remember to pray for you guys because I’ll probably never get around to taking down the clothesline above my bookshelves.

You are certainly the hostest with the mostest, dear daughter. And you know I don’t hand out that title lightly :)
I want to know about those yellow chairs. They are more enticing than the food!
Good post. It could only have been better had you included some of my grandchildren in it.
Love!
Adorable! Love the little details, the pompoms, the touches of yellow in the house the dogwood branches…beautiful. the perfect hostess!
love the pompoms, love the cute extra seating, love the rug, love the flowers. Wow, what’s not to love? Can you give a tutorial on how you made the flowers? I want to put some in Adeline’s room.
Well… after two days of Jason prompting me to read your blog (I usually check it frequently, but I haven’t been on the computer, let alone the internet for a while.), I finally have read it. Plus you’ve given me a hard time about reading your blog, but not commenting on any posts; so I suppose this would definitely be the one I ought to comment on. I just want to thank you for such an awesome baby shower. I know a lot of people contributed ( and they’ll be getting a thank you from me as well, if I can muster up the energy and time to write them), but I wanted to give you props for hosting and planning and cooking, and decorating… I ( and Jason) am so blessed to have such dear friends to throw such a wonderful party for our babies and it will be cherished be me always!!! It was a lot of fun and I felt very celebrated. I haven’t been much of a talker since becoming pregnant, not sure why, but definitely in the last few months, talking has been difficult-I think because of being pregnant, but also because I have felt very emotionally unstable, so I just choose to keep it low-key. BUT, I wanted to be able to tell you how much your hard work was appreciated and how much I loved every bit of it all. Thanks, and love from Kallie, Jason, and the girls!!!!
Looks like a fun shower!! I am with Mom, we want to know more about the yellow chairs please.
